I hope everyone had a good weekend. I set off to the Camp Verde area on Saturday morning to photograph a slot canyon in that. It was also my intention to record a little behind the scenes video to share with you all but unfortunately, the video didn’t come out because of some equipment issues. Hopefully I’ll have better luck next time.
In the meantime, I’ll have a few shots photos from the canyon coming up in the next couple days. I have been finding it helpful to wait a day or two before I begin processing my images. This helps clear my mind a little better and allows me to visualize the final image before I begin.
Today’s shot comes from the Grand Canyon’s south rim. I took this a few weeks ago during what turned out to be a very long (but awesome) day. It was a very cold and windy morning when I arrived and I found this lone tree that seemed to be growing into solid rock swaying with the wind. I loved the colorful glow that came from the newly risen sun. Enjoy!

I am always amazed at how these trees and weeds can grow out of the solid rock, but they find a way don’t they! Love the soft background and the light!
Glen Kellner says:
Jason, I love your pictures. I really love photography and now that I finished school I will get to indulge in it again.

I saw these trees seeming growing out of rock when I was at the Grand Canyon and they amazed me. I just read an article in the latest issue of Outdoor Photographer about Elliot Porter and how he defined the initimate landscape photograph (meaning not all landscape images have to be wide angle expansive shots). Some of his most beautiful images are ones that he got close too and only gave a hint of what was surrounding it. I think this is a wonderful example of an initimate landscape portrait. Beautiful work.
