Moonset
Wow, what a crazy day yesterday! My image of the Supermoon from yesterday has received a lot of attention and I wanted to take a moment to thank everyone who has commented, tweeted, shared and liked my image. All the support has been truly overwhelming and I really appreciate it.
I wanted to post one more “Supermoon” image for today. It’s not often that I am hoping for clear skies when I am out photographing, but this was one of those times. On this occasion, I was delighted that mother nature was kind enough to give me what I was looking for. The morning following the rise of the supermoon, I managed to drag myself out of my sleeping bag at 3am (without setting off my car alarm in the campground this time) and head out to to take some more pictures as the moon descended into the west. This was shot not long before the sun rose that morning in the other direction. Enjoy!
Supermoon 2012
Hi Everyone!
The largest moon of 2012 came full on Saturday night and I had the opportunity to get out to the Toroweap view point of the Grand Canyon to shoot it! This was my first time visiting Toroweap and I have to say that I was a little intimidated to stand so close to the edge of a sheer 3000′ drop to the Colorado River.
For the occasion, I rented a Nikon 200-400mm lens with a 1.7x teleconverter from Borrow Lenses so I could get up close and personal with this huge moon. To get a good perspective, I hiked about 3 miles from the main view point to an isolated area which gave me a great perspective of the moonrise. I cannot even begin to describe my feeling of awe and excitement as I stood there on the edge of the Grand Canyon watching this beautiful yellow moon rise up over the horizon. This was my favorite shot from the moonrise – I hope you like it! Be sure to click on the image to view it in the light box.
