Wow! Last night’s storm featured some of the most intense lightning I have seen in a long time. I can only think of one other time about three years ago when I saw so much lightning in one night. Kristi and I headed off toward Roosevelt in the evening yesterday to try to head off what I hoped would be an awesome storm. By the time we got out to Roosevelt Lake however the storm had started to tail off south toward Globe. We made it there in time to witness so very intense lightning but it was raining too hard to really get great shots.

We made one more attempt to get in front of the storm but it was still veering too far south so we decided to abandon it and head home. After stopping for a quick bite to eat we headed for home only to find another storm heading directly for us. As it turned out in the end, we didn’t need to go anywhere after all. One of the most intense parts of the storm ended up directly over us. The thunder was so loud it set off car alarms, frightened our dog and made my wife scream a number of times. All in all, it was a fun night :) .

For those of you who never played Mortal Kombat, the character “Raiden” was known as the Thunder God.

This was one of my favorite lightning shots that I took the other night. I love how the bolt spanned the whole frame in this one. A little longer and it literally would have been a rainbow. I hope you all have a great one!

Finally, after months of waiting, the monsoons storms starting rolling in with full force. Saturday was looking to be a promising day so I kept an eye on the radar maps and ended up out in Fountain Hills not long after dark. Before long, the storms starting moving in over the East Valley and we were able to capture some awesome lightning shots.

It was really a great time being out there watching the storms roll past. Kristi shot her way through both of her batteries and I filled up a couple memory cards before the storms started to move off. This was our first time out shooting lightning and I would definitely call it a success!

Welcome to the weekend! Here is a shot I took at the Wildlife World Zoo the other week. These were a couple of affectionate parrots. I hope you enjoy – don’t forgot to visit tomorrow for Sock Monkey Sunday!

Welcome to the weekend!

Just a simple post for today. This is another image from the Desert Botanical Garden. I really enjoyed shooting all the different flowers while I was there. I find it incredible that these cacti have some of the most beautiful flowers. Hope you like it!
